Yttrium(III) acetylacetonate hydrate is a catalyst that is used in the reduction of organic compounds. Yttrium(III) acetylacetonate hydrate has been shown to be active in a number of different chemical reactions, including the reduction of aromatic and aliphatic nitro groups, reductive amination, and reductive alkylation. It also can reduce metal ions such as palladium and platinum to their elemental state. Yttrium(III) acetylacetonate hydrate has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the reduction of x-ray photoelectrons, which are produced by x-ray irradiation or electron bombardment. The dispersive x-ray spectroscopy technique can be used to characterize the surface properties of this compound.
