Avitinib maleate is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and inhibits its activation. It has been shown to have therapeutic effects against prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit EGFR signaling pathways. Avitinib maleate also has an effect on the ubiquitin-proteasome system, which is involved in protein degradation and removal from cells. Avitinib maleate blocks the formation of this system, leading to increased levels of ubiquitination and decreased levels of proteasomal activity. Avitinib maleate also has a matrix effect on tumour cells by binding to laminin receptors on cell membranes, leading to remodeling of the extracellular matrix. This prevents cells from migrating out of the primary tumor site or forming new metastases.
