It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, including mammary cancer cells and cervical cancer cells. 8-Chloro-2H-chromen-2-one inhibits the tumorigenic properties of mcf-7 cells by blocking mitogenic signaling pathways, specifically the phosphorylation of pRb by protein kinase B (PKB). This compound also has antitumor activity against both cultured cell lines and xenografts, inhibiting tumor growth in nude mice.
