Amiodarone is a drug that belongs to the group of annular compounds. It has been used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). Amiodarone has been shown to have toxic effects on cardiac tissue and other organs, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the metabolism of thyroid hormones by deiodination. Amiodarone also inhibits synthesis of protein by binding to DNA, inhibiting transcription and translation.
