Descrição:Nefazodone is a drug that belongs to the group of antidepressants. It is used for the treatment of depression and bowel disease. Nefazodone has been shown to have a synergic effect with recombinant cytochrome p450, which inhibits the production of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the brain. The inhibition of 5-HT synthesis by nefazodone may be due to its ability to bind to 5-HT receptors and block serotonin from binding. Drugs that interact with nefazodone can include antihistamines, antibiotics, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, lithium, metoprolol, paroxetine and propanolol. In clinical trials where nefazodone was administered in combination with tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), it showed superiority over placebo in patients with major depression who had not responded adequately to previous antidepressant
