• Descrição: Orlistat is a lipase inhibitor that is used as a weight-loss drug. It works by inhibiting the absorption of dietary fats and their subsequent conversion into triglycerides in the intestines, thereby limiting the calories absorbed. Orlistat has been shown to be effective in lymphatic and fatty acid transport, but oral bioavailability is low due to extensive first-pass metabolism. Orlistat inhibits pancreatic lipase, which may lead to reduced intestinal fat absorption and decreased systemic exposure. This drug also inhibits long-chain fatty acids from being absorbed through the intestinal wall and prevents them from being metabolized, thereby reducing lipid formulations in the blood.
