NO-1886 is a novel small molecule that inhibits the activity of growth factor-β1 and is used to treat metabolic disorders, such as bowel disease. It has been shown to increase the expression of lipoprotein lipase in human serum and adipose tissue. NO-1886 also reduces hepatic steatosis and tubulointerstitial injury by inhibiting lipolysis, which prevents the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue into the blood stream. This drug is being developed for clinical trials for the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions.
