- 4-Bromo-alpha-diazobenzeneacetic acid ethyl ester
Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)-2-diazoacetate is a furan analog that has insecticidal activity. It binds to the cuticle of insects and inhibits their ability to produce chitin, leading to death. This compound is also used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. The x-ray crystal structure of ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)-2-diazoacetate has been determined. The modifications made in this molecule are mainly on the 4-position, where a hydroxymethyl group was substituted for a hydrogen atom. This substitution increased its insecticidal activity by increasing its solubility in water and by modifying its binding affinity to the cuticle of insects. Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)-2-diazoacetate is teratogenic in rats and meliaceae plants, which may be due to its inhibition of protein synthesis or cell division. Symptoms include fraxine
