The mechanism of action for 2-Hydroxybenzimidazole involves the formation of hydrogen bonds with hydroxyl groups on proteins. It also has been shown to reduce locomotor activity and increase sleep time in mice, which may be due to inhibition of acetylcholine release from cholinergic neurons.
