Poloxamer 407 is a synthetic, non-biodegradable polymer that is used as a surfactant in pharmaceutical preparations. It is typically used to solubilize poorly water-soluble drugs. Poloxamer 407 has been shown to inhibit angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers and hydrochloric acid, which are involved in the production of stomach acid and regulate blood pressure. The chloride ions present in this polymer are also responsible for its antibacterial properties. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. This polymer can also be used as an active targeting agent for drug delivery systems by attaching it to other molecules with specific biological activities.
