3-Hydroxyquinoline-6-carboxylic acid is a carboxylic acid that is found in various plant and animal products. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of E. coli with carboxylic acids and also reduce the production of putidaredoxin, an enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of quinolinecarboxylate to indole-3-carboxylate. 3-Hydroxyquinoline-6-carboxylic acid has been shown to react with indole-3-carboxylic acid, forming a regioisomeric product. The substrate specificity of 3HQLA is restricted to indole compounds; it does not act on other amino acids such as phenylalanine or tryptophan.
