γ-Globulins from human blood are a type of drug binding protein. They are found in the plasma and serum of healthy adults, with concentrations varying by age and gender. γ-Globulins bind to antigens, which are molecules that stimulate antibody production. They have been used as a preventive measure against hepatitis in women, as well as for the treatment of people who have been exposed to infectious diseases such as HIV or hepatitis C. γ-Globulins also prevent the uptake of drugs by cells, which can lead to their elimination from the body. γ-Globulins can be used for the treatment of fibrinogen deficiencies in infants and children with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) or hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
