Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate to oxaloacetate in the presence of CO2. It has a michaelis-menten kinetic, which means that it can be described by a simple equation with respect to substrate concentration and enzyme concentration. PEPC is activated by high levels of phosphoenolpyruvate or a low pH, and it is inhibited by high concentrations of ATP, ADP, AMP, or NADH. The reaction mechanism involves the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate to oxaloacetate through two intermediates: phosphoethanolamine and erythrose-4-phosphate.
