Naphthalene-1,2,3,4-tetrone dihydrate is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the inflammatory response by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. It has been shown to have a beneficial effect on IBD and other inflammatory diseases. Naphthalene-1,2,3,4-tetrone dihydrate has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 in a cell culture model. This drug also binds to enzymes that are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. By binding to these enzymes, naphthalene-1,2,3,4-tetrone dihydrate prevents their activity and suppresses inflammation.
