3,5-Dichlorobiphenyl is a chlorinated biphenyl that has been shown to be an effective chloride ion donor. This compound has been used in the development of actuators and as a kinetic data analyzer in vitro assays. 3,5-Dichlorobiphenyl can also be thermally or laser ablated for positioning purposes. 3,5-Dichlorobiphenyl has been shown to be an inhibitor for copper oxide and diphenyl ethers. The reaction mechanism of 3,5-dichlorobiphenyl is not clearly understood but it has been shown to have enzyme specificity for biphenol oxidase.
