- Magnesium Bromide 2,3-Dimethylbenzenide
2,3-Dimethylphenylmagnesium bromide is a quaternary ammonium compound that has been shown to be effective against bacteria. It is also used for the chlorination of organic compounds and for alkylation reactions. 2,3-Dimethylphenylmagnesium bromide has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. This drug binds to DNA and inhibits bacterial replication by preventing transcription and translation. It can be used as a disinfectant or an antiseptic because it kills bacteria without causing tissue damage. 2,3-Dimethylphenylmagnesium bromide is prepared by adding hydrochloric acid to a solution of triazine dissolved in ether. The Grignard reagent formed reacts with magnesium, which generates magnesium chloride and 2,3-dimethylphenylmagnesium bromide.
