TH 588 is a catalyst that inhibits the polymerase chain reaction. It binds to the DNA polymerase, thereby preventing the extension of DNA strands and inhibiting the replication of DNA. TH 588 has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of cancer cells, as it causes apoptosis in these cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. This drug has also been shown to cause DNA damage in cancer tissues and cancer cells. TH 588 has been found to inhibit mitotic activity in mammalian cell cultures by interfering with the production of proteins necessary for mitotic progression.
