4-Amino-3-hydroxyphenylsulphur pentafluoride is a synthetic chemical that can be used to produce muconic acid. It is prepared by the reaction of oxalyl chloride with aniline and hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution. The yield of this product is high, but it contains peroxides which must be removed before use. 4-Amino-3-hydroxyphenylsulphur pentafluoride can also be used as a precursor to aminophenols and pentafluorides, which are useful for the synthesis of drugs and other organic compounds. The methodologies involved in this process are complicated due to its sensitivity to air, moisture, and light. When exposed to these conditions, the reaction will produce hydrogen peroxide gas as a byproduct.
