Ethyl 3-(furan-2-yl)propanoate is a reactive compound that can be used as a photooxidation sensitizer in organic synthesis. The compound is highly reactive, and has been shown to undergo oxacycles with acetonitrile. Ethyl 3-(furan-2-yl)propanoate also reacts with nucleophiles such as water, alcohols, and amines to form the corresponding esters. It has been shown to have skin reactions in mice when it is applied topically. It has a high uptake when applied on different substrates, including polymers and textiles.
