1-(1H-Pyrazol-1-yl)ethanone is an acrylonitrile that can act as a ligand and is used in the synthesis of 1,3,5-triazinones. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome, blocking the attachment of aminoacyl tRNA to the ribosome. This inhibition leads to the accumulation of uncharged tRNA molecules in the ribosome, which prevents peptide bond formation from occurring. 1-(1H-Pyrazol-1-yl)ethanone also has been shown to have anticancer properties when tested on human cancer cells.
