3-Iodo-4-cyanopyridine (3ICP) is a 4-cyanopyridine derivative that has shown efficient reactivity with electrophiles. 3ICP is an electron acceptor and reacts with electrophiles to form a covalent bond. The cyano group of the 3ICP molecule can be replaced by other functional groups, such as hydroxyl, amine, or nitro. The reactivity of 3ICP is different from that of other nitrones because it does not react with nucleophiles. It has been used in the synthesis of heterocycles such as imidazoles and pyrazoles. 3ICP has also been used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics and anticancer drug candidates.
