Chloro(3-chloropropyl)dimethylsilane is an organic compound that is soluble in water, alcohols, and ethers. This compound is commercially available as a liquid and can be used as a polymerization initiator or as a chloride source. Chloro(3-chloropropyl)dimethylsilane has the chemical formula ClCH2CH2SiCl and has a molecular weight of 192.3 g/mol. It has two functional groups: an ethyl group and chlorine atom. It also contains two hydrochloric acid molecules for each chloride ion on the molecule. It is synthesized from chloride, ethyl chloride, and hydrogen gas.
