F-15599 is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor that binds to the serotonin transporter, blocking its function. F-15599 has been shown to be effective against depression in animal models and is being investigated as a potential antidepressant. It is also being investigated for the treatment of anxiety disorders and schizophrenia. The drug has been shown to have potent effects on locomotor activity, striatal dopamine levels, and brain functions. In addition, F-15599 is a 5-HT1A receptor agonist and 5-HT2A receptor antagonist, which may contribute to its therapeutic effects in depression.
F-15599 has not been evaluated for use in humans or animals during pregnancy or lactation due to the lack of adequate data on safety.
