It has been shown to enhance tryptophan fluorescence in cancer tissues and has been investigated as a potential treatment for skin cancer. This drug also has redox potentials that make it an excellent candidate for the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions. 4,4²,4³,4³²-(Porphine-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis(benzenesulfonic acid) binds to mammalian tissue and can be used as a pharmaceutical preparation in human serum.
