This compound can also interact with oligodeoxynucleotides and is able to inhibit the synthesis of RNA by interacting with ribonucleotide reductase. The interaction of 5-methyl 4 thioxo 3,4 dihydropyrimidin 2(1H) one with ribonucleotide reductase leads to the formation of silver ions, which are toxic to cells and lead to cell death.
