Succinimido m-toluate (ST) is a potent inhibitor of the p2y receptor and has been shown to have antimicrobial activity in vitro. It also inhibits the production of cytosolic Ca2+ by binding to the receptor for gamma-aminobutyric acid, which may reduce neuronal excitability. ST has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction as well as mRNA synthesis in mammalian cells, although it does not affect DNA synthesis. The potential interaction of ST with drugs that inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes and with monoclonal antibodies is not known.
