3-Mercaptopropionic acid (3MPA) is a chemical compound that has been shown to have reactive properties, such as its ability to form covalent bonds with DNA. 3MPA is also a potent inhibitor of amino acid uptake in cells and has been used for the treatment of cancer. 3MPA can be conjugated to ethyl methacrylate to form pyridyl disulfide ethyl methacrylate, which is a polymer that can be used in diagnostic methods, such as cell culture and immunofluorescence.
