- 1-(Bromomethyl)-2-Methylnaphthalene
1-(Bromomethyl)-2-methylnaphthalene is an organoiron compound. It has a reactive benzylic position and can be used as a coupling agent in organic chemistry. The molecule is also able to form dimers with bromide ions, which are reduced by the removal of hydrogen bromide. This reaction is followed by reductive coupling of the resulting halides with aldehydes, ketones, or carboxylic acids. During this reaction, 1-(bromomethyl)-2-methylnaphthalene dihydrate (1) is formed as the end product. This product can be oxidized and converted into 1-(bromomethyl)-2-methylnaphthalene oxide (2). Additionally, it has been found that 1-(bromomethyl)-2-methylnaphthalene yields biomolecular structures that have not yet been identified.
