Prop-2-en-1-yl benzoic acid is an alkenoic, organometallic compound that is a metabolite of 2-bromopropane. It can be obtained from the bromolactonization of tetrahydrofuran with lithium aluminum hydride followed by allylic oxidation with chromium oxide and sodium hydroxide. Prop-2-en-1-yl benzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to increased levels of acetylcholine in the brain. This leads to increased activity on nicotinic receptors and improved cognition. This compound has also been shown to be a ligand for donepezil, which is an inhibitor of cholinesterases.
