α-Hydroxy flurbiprofen is a metabolite of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) Flurbiprofen. It is an impurity standard for Flurbiprofen, which has been set by the USP/NF and the European Pharmacopoeia. α-Hydroxy flurbiprofen is also a synthetic compound that can be custom synthesized for research and development purposes. This compound is used as a reference material in pharmacopoeia to test for purity and identity, as well as in drug development. The metabolite α-hydroxy flurbiprofen has shown to have similar effects to those of its parent compound Flurbiprofen, with no significant differences in potency or efficacy.
