Tert-Butyl (2-formylquinolin-6-yl)carbamate is a reagent used in the determination of tert-butyl alcohols. It is prepared by the reaction of trifluoroacetic acid with 2,6-dichloroquinoline in the presence of sodium carbonate. This compound has been shown to have potential as a biomarker for oxidative injury and can be used to study the mechanism of neuronal death. Tert-Butyl (2-formylquinolin-6-yl)carbamate inhibits a number of enzymes that are involved in the transfer reactions, such as phosphatidylethanolamine N,N'-diacetyltransferase and phosphatidylethanolamine N,N'-dimethyltransferase. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to an accumulation of free fatty acids and lysophospholipids in cells, which may lead to cell death.
