2-bromo-1-(4-dimethylamino-phenyl)-ethanone (DMPE) is a fatty acid derivative that has been used in the analysis of fatty acids. DMPE reacts with fatty acids to form esters and can be used to detect both free and esterified fatty acids. It can also be used to analyze the profile of fatty acids in plasma or urine samples, which is useful for diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. This compound can be synthesized from 2-bromoacetic acid and 1,4-dimethylaniline. The reaction requires heating at 150°C for 5 hours.
