3-(4,5-Dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-ylsulfanyl)-1H-indole (3DHSI) is a prodrug that is activated by fatty acids. It is used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and bowel disease. 3DHSI has been shown to have excitotoxic effects on neurons in animal models of Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. 3DHSI can be conjugated to compounds that are biologically active, such as fatty alcohols or amino acids. This drug can also be synthesized with functional groups, such as sulphonylurea or sulfonylurea, which are useful for treating diabetes mellitus type 2. 3DHSI is an analog of other drugs used in the treatment of these diseases, such as mesalamine or sulfasalazine.
