Mapracorat is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as eosinophil peroxidase and tumor necrosis factor-α. Mapracorat is effective in vitro against polymorphs and has been shown to inhibit leukotriene synthesis by competitively binding to the leukotriene receptor. Mapracorat has also shown anti-inflammatory activity in animal models of inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis. This drug has been used in vivo to treat choroidal neovascularization and fluorescein angiography, which are conditions related to age-related macular degeneration.
