It has been shown to be an agonist at metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) with high selectivity for this subtype. VU 6005649 has been shown to have potent and selective effects on neuronal function, and penetrates the blood-brain barrier. It also shows no binding affinity to other glutamate receptor subtypes, such as mGluR1 and mGluR2/3.
