It has been shown to inhibit the growth of lung cancer cells in animals and is also active against trypanosoma, an organism that causes African sleeping sickness. 7,8-Dimethoxy-1-oxo-1H-isothiochromene-3-carboxylic acid has also been shown to be effective against parasites such as trypanosomes and helminths that cause diseases such as African sleeping sickness and intestinal worms.
