2,3,5-Tri-O-p-chlorobenzoyl-b-D-ribofuranosyl chloride is a glycosylation inhibitor that inhibits the synthesis of complex carbohydrates. It is used in the preparation of oligosaccharides and sugar derivatives. 2,3,5-Tri-O-p-chlorobenzoyl-b-D-ribofuranosyl chloride is synthesized by reacting an activated glycosylin with chloroformic acid in the presence of sodium hydroxide. This reaction can also be carried out with a variety of sugars including dextrose, fructose and glucose. Methylation at the 2 position of the benzoyl group can be accomplished by refluxing 2,3,5 -tri -O -p -chlorobenzoyl b -D -ribofuranosyl chloride with methyl iodide in dry acetone for 4 hrs.
