Decahydronaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid is a plant cell metabolite that was first detected in the leaves of the Atriplex canescens plant. It has been shown to be a substrate for oxidative cyclization by cleavage of the carbon-carbon bond adjacent to the carboxyl group. Decahydronaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid is present in naphthenic oils, which are hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum distillation. The degradation products of decahydronaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid have been determined using analytical methods such as gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
