Descrição:Samarium fluoride (SmF3) is a chemical compound that is used in the treatment of certain cancers, such as prostate cancer. It is a radioactive substance that emits electrons and x-rays. The electrons are used for irradiation and the x-rays for treatments. This substance can be administered by injection, intravenously, orally or topically. Samarium fluoride creates a thin film on the surface of the body that can be monitored with an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy instrument to determine if it has been absorbed into the body. When samarium is reduced to Sm2+, it forms products such as fluorides and deformation. Deformation may cause problems in the cell structure and lead to DNA mutations.
