Methyl 2-hydroxydocosanoate is a metabolite of cerebroside, which is a type of glycolipid that is found in the brain. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic effects in mice. Methyl 2-hydroxydocosanoate also has the potential to be used as an antidiabetic drug because it inhibits the production of glucose from glycogen in the liver. This compound can also be used to synthesize cerebrosides with different fatty acid chains. The structural analysis of this compound has revealed that methyl 2-hydroxydocosanoate contains long chains of fatty acids, which are not usually found in natural products. This makes this compound an interesting candidate for further study.
