Icariside D2 is a natural compound that belongs to the group of uridine. It can be isolated from the leaves of plants in the family Asteraceae. Icariside D2 has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and it also inhibits cancer cells. It is an inhibitor of glycosidic bond formation and acts as a competitive inhibitor of target enzymes such as β-glucosidase, α-galactosidase, α-mannosidase, and β-mannosidase.
The anticancer activity may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis by preventing the synthesis of purines and pyrimidine nucleotides.
