It is an activator of phosphoramidites, which are used to synthesize oligonucleotides. 2'-Deoxy-5'-O-DMT-2'-trifluoroacetamidouridine can be used as an anti-cancer drug and has antiviral activity. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV by interfering with viral enzymes such as reverse transcriptase and integrase. 2'-Deoxy-5'-O-DMT-2'-trifluoroacetamidouridine can also be used for the treatment of influenza A virus infections.
