2'-Deoxy-5-fluorouridine 5'-monophosphate sodium salt is a prodrug that is converted to fluorouracil in the body. Fluorouracil inhibits the activity of thymidylate synthase and other enzymes involved in DNA synthesis, which are associated with cancer. It is also an inhibitor binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase II, which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects. 2'-Deoxy-5-fluorouridine 5'-monophosphate sodium salt has been shown to inhibit the growth of human tumor cells in culture and in animal models. The matrix effect may be responsible for this activity. 2'-Deoxy-5-fluorouridine 5'-monophosphate sodium salt can be used as a model system for studying cancer tissues.
