4-Amino-Pyridin-3-yl)-methanol (4AP) is a chemical compound that has been shown to have the ability to inhibit nerve injury. 4AP is a blocker of the K+ channels and can be used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. 4AP has been shown to have beneficial effects on muscle cells and has also been found to have beneficial effects on nerve cells in culture. In addition, it has been shown that 4AP has an effect on insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Sprague Dawley rats were injected with 4AP and then their brains were examined under the microscope. The rats showed no visible symptoms of disease and their brains looked normal, suggesting that 4AP may help prevent or delay the onset of Parkinson's Disease.
