Tebufenozide-1-hydroxyethyl is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the group of macrolides. It has been shown to have bactericidal activity and is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Tebufenozide-1-hydroxyethyl also has antiviral, antiparasitic, and antifungal properties. Tebufenozide-1-hydroxyethyl can penetrate into cells by passive diffusion and inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome. Inhibition of protein synthesis leads to cell death.
