Descrição:9-(5’-Methyl-b-D-ribofuranosyl)-6-chloropurine is a novel antiviral that belongs to the class of deoxyribonucleosides. It is synthesized by reacting 5’-methyl-2,4(1H,3H) pyrimidinedione with 6-chloropurine in the presence of sodium bicarbonate and sulfuric acid. 9-(5’-Methyl-b-D-ribofuranosyl)-6-chloropurine inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the enzyme ribonuclease H (RNase H). RNase H hydrolyzes RNA sequences that are complementary to the 3’ end of DNA sequences and this drug prevents RNase H from functioning. 9-(5’-Methyl-b-Dribofuranosyl)-6 chloropurine also inhibits tumour cells and has shown anticancer activity in
