This material emits blue light when irradiated with UV or visible light and was found to have a quantum yield of 1% under such conditions. 2,6-Bis[3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl]pyridine also reacts with picolinic acid in a reaction solution to form phosphorescent crystals.
