2-Acetamido-2-deoxy-6-O-(b-D-galactopyranosyl)-D-galactopyranose is a model organism that is used in the study of virus replication. It is a substrate for viral glycosylation and has been shown to be involved in mammalian cell growth. 2-Acetamido-2-deoxy-6-O-(b-D-galactopyranosyl)-D-galactopyranose is an iron oxide and it can be used as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT). The gene product has not yet been identified, but it has been shown to be involved in fatty acid metabolism and cancer. This molecule also plays a role in the life cycle of some infectious diseases, such as influenza A virus.
