Octyl 2-furancarboxylate is a fatty acid ester of octanoic acid and has been shown to be a potential substitute for octanoic acid in the production of plasticizers. It has been shown to have high thermal stability, low volatility, and good health and acceptability. Octyl 2-furancarboxylate is also an effective antioxidant, which may be related to its ability to inhibit free radical formation by preventing the oxidation of fatty acids. Octyl 2-furancarboxylate is also used in the manufacture of soaps and detergents as a raw material for surfactants.
