Descrição:2-(Chloromethyl)-5-phenyl-1,3-oxazole is an inhibitor of cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP) that belongs to the family of amides. It binds to the active site of CETP, preventing it from cleaving cholesteryl esters from HDL and transferring them to LDL. This prevents the formation of cholesteryl ester/LDL complexes, which are believed to be one cause of atherosclerosis. 2-(Chloromethyl)-5-phenyl-1,3-oxazole also inhibits cholesterol synthesis in liver cells by inhibiting HMG CoA reductase.
